Tile vs. Luxury Vinyl Plank: Which Flooring Is Best for Florida Homes?

Porcelain tile and luxury vinyl plank (LVP) are the two most popular flooring choices in South Florida right now. Both handle humidity well and both can look great. The right choice depends on how you live, which rooms you are covering and your budget.

When porcelain tile is the better choice

  • Bathrooms, laundry rooms and entryways
  • Homes where you want maximum longevity
  • Areas that open to patios or pool decks
  • Homeowners who love the look of large-format stone or wood-look porcelain

When luxury vinyl plank makes more sense

  • Bedrooms and living areas where comfort and quiet matter
  • Homes with kids or pets
  • Faster projects where you want to minimize downtime
  • Second floors and condos, where sound transmission matters (check your association's rules)

Do not forget the slab

Whichever product you choose, slab preparation is critical. Uneven concrete leads to hollow tiles, cracked grout or LVP joints that separate. Proper grinding, leveling and moisture protection are what make a floor last.
